The rear-mounted tuning machines are attached to the headstock after the finish has been polished. The coqui (Puerto Rican tree toad) is a dry-transfer which was applied to the headstock before the finish was sprayed on, so it lies under the finish.

The tuning machines are a German brand of excellent-quality. Although the side-mounted tuners and the slotted headstock design are more traditional, many musicians prefer this configuration because it is much easier to attach the strings this way, and the quality of available five-course side-mounted tuners is far lower than individual rear-mounted tuners.

The nut and saddle have been carefully shaped and fitted, and the instrument is strung up. Finally, a series of careful playing adjustments are made to insure the greatest playing ease and...
