We wish to update you on our recent work and accomplishments, and at the same time share some new images and sounds from our archives found in www.cuatro-pr.org

Gracias a los esfuerzos de la Representante Cheryl Rivera y el Senador Stan Rosenberg, el Proyecto del Cuatro recibió una subvención de la legislatura del Estado de Massachusetts valuado en $75,000 para completar varias de sus obras de investigacion y documentación actualmente en progreso. La subvención servirá para completar:

* La recopilación y publicación de las memorias del gran cantaor tradicional Joaquín Mouliert, "El Pitirre de Fajardo"

* La terminación y distribución del segundo volúmen del documental NUESTRO CUATRO en formato DVD

* La terminación y publicación de un libro ilustradio titulado, Los Instrumentos de la Orquesta Jibara en el cual se resumirá las investigaciones del Proyecto acerca de la música, los orígenes y las tradiciones que rodean nuestro instrumentos nativos de cuerda.

Thanks to the efforts of Representative Cheryl Rivera and Senator Stan Rosenberg, the Cuatro Project has been awarded a grant from the Legislature of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for $75,000 for research and documentation projects currently in progress, efforts which will make Massachusetts reknown as a center for cultural research. The grant will serve to complete:

* Compilation and publication of the memoirs of the great traditional singer Joaquín Mouliert, known as "The Pitirre of Fajardo."

* Completion and distribution of the second volume of the documentary NUESTRO CUATRO in DVD format.

* Completion and publication of a new illustrated textbook titled, Instruments of the Jibaro Orchestra, which will embody the Project´s fourteen years of research on the music, origins and traditions of our native stringed instruments.

El Proyecto del Cuatro esta digitalizando una serie de viejas grabaciones personales de Tuto Feliciano, quien se encuentra retirado y en declinante salud.

The Cuatro Project is currently digitizing a series of old personal tape recordings belonging to Tuto Feliciano, who is currently retired and in declining health.

*Creation of a new Teaching System for the Cuatro, in other words a new graduated method for teaching the instrument, which will include an anthology of cuatro music in staff and tablature.
* Organizing a photo shoot that brings together the most admired cuatro players, a project termed "A Great Day in Puerto Rico."
* Production of a compact disc recording that recreates the sounds and themes of the 19th century string ensemble called the Early Jíbaro Orchestra, a product of the original research of the Cuatro Project's Juan Sotomayor. The Early Jíbaro Orchestra was made up of a cuatro, a bordonúa, a tiple and a güiro. The recording will feature period instruments. The ensemble was first described by Manuel Alonso in 1849.

We've joined the task  of broadening the listening audiences of our new crop of young cuatristas. We are proud to have a handful of amazingly proficient young players that are taking the instrument to new realms. Among them are Cristian Nieves, Quique Domenech and Charlie Rodriguez Santiago.

On our site, we are currently featuring two emerging cuatro phenomenons that have recently produced their own CD recordings: Alvin Medina and Mi Musica Borincana y Maribel Delgado with her new CD El Cuatro en Manos de una Mujer.
